Early fall has come and gone, and with each new day that passes, the wind is getting crisper; piles of leaves dress the ground; days are even shorter, and often wetter. And more than wanting to venture out, you find yourself longing for days spent at home, safe and warm. The coziest part of autumn has officially begun.

Allow us to inspire and encourage your homebody inclinations — here are 10 simple ways to bask in the coziest time of this season.

01 | Have a daily teatime.

Whether first thing in the morning, or as an afternoon treat, or as a way to wind down in the evening, a daily steaming cup of tea will do wonders for your soul. Pick a favorite mug or teacup, find a sweetener and milk, and enjoy the slowing down that a cuppa brings.

02 | Find a comfort show.

We live in a time when so many of our old favorite TV shows are available with just a few taps. Go back and watch a comfort show that makes you feel like you’re hanging out with your beloved friends and family — every episode will be both nostalgic and grounding.

03 | Try new soup recipes.

All the soup recipes that had to go in your “saved for later” folder can come out, because it’s finally soup season. Try new concoctions and find new favorites that will go in the “to be made every year” folder.

04 | Take up a cozy habit.

Now is the time to bask in your “inside” hobbies — sewing, creative writing, or doing puzzles. Return to a hobby you know and love, or try out a new one that caught your eye.

05 | Indulge in all the candles.

You can never have too many candles — we are firm believers in that. Indulge in the most autumnal scents that candles have to offer: pumpkin spice, cedar, apple cinnamon, or smoked vanilla, just to name a few!

06 | Pick up a book (or two… or three).

What better time than the inside months is there to curl up with that TBR stack that’s been growing on your nightstand? Pick up a cozy mystery, a sweet romance, or a thrilling crime drama.

07 | Get into journaling.

Journaling invites you to slow down and take note of both your life’s exterior happenings, and your soul’s interior happenings. May we suggest trying out our very own guided journal, teeming with inspiring quotes from great minds and deep, probing questions that will get you thinking?

08 | Bake, bake, bake.

If you’re going to be mostly inside for the next few months, you might as well have your home smelling like every tasty treat you can imagine. Whip up cinnamon rolls, apple pie, chocolate pumpkin muffins, or cherry crisp and relish the warm, spicy tastes of autumn.

09 | Find (or make) a playlist.

Every good mood is set with a good playlist. Something that captures the feeling of the seasons while matching your personal taste. Whether you’re partial to classic, indie folk, or jazz, there’s an autumnal playlist out there for you — or waiting to be made by you.

10 | Go to bed early.

If the sun is going to bed earlier, so can you. Take advantage of these longer nights by turning in before your typical bedtime, and allow yourself a slow, peaceful, lifegiving nighttime routine that will make you feel rested and ready to take on whatever tomorrow holds.
