9 Summer Date Ideas To Get You Out Of The House

Summer is approaching faster than we’d expected — wasn’t it just barely the beginning or spring a moment ago? And yet, the days are getting sunnier and longer, graduation celebrations are bringing people together, and we’re all wondering how we’re possibly already six months into 2022.

And with these summer months come a whole host of new date ideas and adventures for us and our significant other — outings and experiences that, just a month or two ago, wouldn’t have been nearly as fun. But with the weather finally on our side, it’s time to get out of the house and do something together. Below, find 9 wonderful summer date ideas.

Organize a picnic in the park.

While we’re itching to get out and soak up some much-needed sun, we’re also longing for a laidback outing — going for a picnic in the park gives us the perfect balance of having gotten out while still taking it easy and — perhaps most importantly — partaking in some tasty food. Pack some nuts, cheese, bread, dips, and sliced meat, and maybe even bring a book to read together along.

Have an outdoor movie night.

Catching a movie is always a solid date idea, but in these fleeting summer months, take advantage of the warm nights and find an outdoor movie screening, whether on a rooftop or in a park. Bring some refreshments and a blanket to sit on and enjoy an outdoor movie night.

Rent a couple bikes.

We don’t always feel like hopping in the car to get wherever we’re going. These summer months give us the perfect opportunity to instead hop on a bike and see where the day takes us. Ride to a local ice cream shop or cafe, by the beach, through a small, sweet neighborhood, or to a bookstore — sneak in a little bit of exercise and bask in the beautiful weather.

Go stargazing.

There are few more romantic ways to spend an evening than staring up at the endless blanket of stars with our significant other by our side, talking for hours on end. Whether you’re on a rooftop, in a wide open field, on a beach, or up in the mountains, bring a blanket along to lay down on, something wonderful to sip or snack on, and set the tone with some relaxing music.

Plan a road trip.

Summer has a unique way of making us itch for a new adventure. Go on an extended date (over a weekend) by taking a little road trip to a destination a couple of hours away — to a small beach town, little mountain town, or anything else. Stay for a night or two and spend the days walking, exploring, and unwinding. Take a polaroid camera along to capture the memories.

Go to an amusement park.

There’s no better time to spend the day at an amusement park than these summer months, when the days are long and warm and welcoming. Enjoy some shaved ice, walk around endlessly, go by a fun gift shop, and let your inner-child get excited at the thought of a roller coaster.

Hike the day away.

Why not incorporate a little light exercise on our date? Sneak away on a hike for a quiet date, just the two of you. Enjoy some clean air, privacy, and a relaxing setting way up in the mountains, and bring along something to munch on once you’ve reached the end of the hike.

Do a beach (or lake) day.

Nothing says ‘summer’ like a day spent by the ocean or a little lake. Bring along a big umbrella, a couple foldable chairs, and lots of sunscreen to reapply in between dips. And for the moments where you’re both taking a rest from swimming or frolicking in the water, bring a book to read aloud.

Make s’mores.

We might assume that sitting by the fire is best done tucked away in the middle of winter, a cup of cocoa and a book nearby. But making a little fire in our backyard during the summer months gives us a wonderful opportunity for a change of scenery and an excuse to make a plate of decadent, chocolatey, gooey s’mores — one of the best summer treats out there. Invest in a portable fire pit, make sure it’s built correctly, and always make sure it’s been thoroughly extinguished before walking away.
