Get The Cottagecore Aesthetic For Your Home

The cottagecore aesthetic first made its big splash in 2020, right in the midst of the first pandemic lockdowns and seemingly unending chaos and strife around the world. Its focus on a cozy, simple life surrounded by fields of flowers and furry animals and homemade loaves of bread attracted us; in a world that felt as though it would never not be on fire again, the thought of running away to live in a remote English cottage, far away from any turmoil, sounded like a dream come true to many.

Alas, for the grand majority of us, starting a new life that includes living in a quiet, lovely, whimsical cottage on the countryside and spending our days baking, reading, and sipping tea isn’t in the cards. But this doesn’t mean we can’t bring the whimsy, beauty, and warmth of the cottagecore aesthetic to our current living space. Below, find 8 things to help you do just that.

Lots of plants.

Every cottage needs a garden — but we don’t all have a sprawling yard to grow one. Still, having a little garden to look after (even if it’s all indoors) is one of the best ways to embrace a cottagecore feel. Dressing up our space with plenty of plants will bring a touch of new life, improve our mood, and add some much-needed color.

A charming tea set.

A cottage isn’t truly a cottage until it houses a charming tea set, which instantly transforms your space from a house into a home. Whether you’ll be be having friends over for an afternoon tea to chat about books and life and hopes for the future, or you’ll be reveling in some time alone, a tea set is the perfect companion for your days.

A cozy reading chair.

If one must live anywhere besides a remote cottage, a warm little reading chair is required to make up for the fact that we don’t live in the English countryside (yet)! Give yourself an armchair that’s reserved only for doing delightful things like reading classic novels, sipping piping hot tea, or journaling the deep thoughts that will make it into your memoir.

An enchanting candle.

Never in the history of candles (which we presume is long) have they made a home less homey — one of the most important aspects of a cottagecore space. The golden glow of a lit candle will never fail to create a pleasant environment, and its beautiful scent will help transport you to the magical, secluded countryside of your dreams.

A floral bedspread.

After a long, arduous day, we all desperately need a peaceful space to recuperate from the chaos of life. And even if you spend most of your time asleep (or falling asleep as you fight to keep your eyes open for just one more page of that book), there’s no better feeling than being enveloped in an elegant floral bedspread as you drift off to your dreams.

A botanical art set.

Nothing says cottagecore like botanical decor — and if you love flowers and plants but don’t possess the ability to keep them alive (we all have our burdens to bear), this aspect of cottagecore is still attainable with a gorgeous botanical print, decorating what otherwise would’ve been blank walls.

Whimsical curtains.

Our windows deserve to be dressed up, too. But rather than relying on old blinds or window treatments that lack artistry, why not hang up curtains that capture our soul’s most whimsical and romantic side, and truly make us feel like the main character in a classic novel?

A soft throw blanket.

How else will you be comfortable on the inevitable cold days, or restful weekends spent catching up on that romantic novel? A soft, cozy throw blanket will assuredly make it harder to leave your comfy ‘cottage’ when work or life calls you back into the real world, but it’ll faithfully wait for you to come back.
